Celebrating Families
Our Beginnings
aLife was founded in 2002 by Dr Peter Chew Chee Tong, an obstetrician & gynaecologist, as a pregnancy crisis support centre. He was joined by Mr James Wong and Mr John Ocampo. Since then, aLife has expanded its services to provide holistic care, offering counselling, therapy and pregnancy resource facilitation to women and their young families.
Together with Dr Chew's wife, Jennifer, who is a trained counsellor, aLife introduced programmes such as Caterpillar Club, fertility awareness, counselling, marriage preparation and seminar-workshops such as Make Love Happen, Women Wellness and The Joy of Motherhood.
Our Founder
Many years ago, I helped the Good Shepherd Sisters look after the medical needs of pregnant mothers in crisis. There was an incident that really touched my heart. The mother was in her 3rd month of pregnancy. She has just learnt that her baby had an undeveloped brain and would not survive once he was born. Under tremendous pressure from the relatives and friends to abort her baby, she told me, "I love my baby and I love life. He is so fragile. How can I destroy him with my own hands?" Against all the "good" advice, she let nature take its course. The baby was delivered at 36 weeks of pregnancy and lived for a few hours. Days later, I received a note from her. It said: "Dear doctor, thank you for allowing me to deliver my baby boy, Joe, naturally. I knew he would not live but you let me experience what motherhood is like, even for a few hours."
"This encounter and many others like it was what spurred me to set up aLife 20 years ago. Over the 20 years, we rejoice that we helped more than 15,000 women, of whom some have chosen to continue with their pregnancies because of the emotional and practical support rendered by aLife."

“I'm a mother of four. In 2009, I was pregnant with my 3rd child and my situation then, was very bad because my landlord wanted to kick us out. I was thinking of abortion and then I met aLife RF. Since then, aLife has been helping me and my family a lot, with many things. aLife also helped us to appeal to HDB for temporary shelter and a rental flat. My 4th child has many medical issues and aLife continues to help me....Thank you aLife for giving me mental support and checking in on me to find out how I'm doing”

“My kids and I always look forward to our befrienders and staff visiting. I am thankful to have someone to talk to and help me out and my 2 kids, especially when things are tough for me. When my pram broke, they found a donor to help me too. I can now bring the kids out to play without worrying. Thank you aLife for helping me out for the last few months.”

““When I had my first daughter, I had no support and I was going through a lot of financial stress. I wasn’t actually working and I didn’t know where to get support from. When I found out that aLife was providing milk & diapers, I was very thankful…The volunteers will deliver it to my house directly and check in on my well-being and on my kids and how we are…Other than milk and diapers, we also have Support Group for the mothers where we get to make new friends and find out more about ourselves. Through the support group, she has taught us that there are many ways to achieve our goals. For example, I want to send my kids to school and start working. Now, (after the support group),I realize that there are always other options for me to go to work even if I don’t manage to get schooling.”
